William Henry Ochs attended Northern State College for four years receiving his bachelor of science degree in education in 1938.  In 1950, he received his masters degree at the University of South Dakota.  While at Northern, Ochs participated in various sports.  He was the captain of the intramural basketball team during the 1937 season.  Ochs was also involved in track and was active during the 1936 and 1937 seasons.  He lettered in track while at Northern. 

Ochs coached at Cottonwood, Presho, Aberdeen, Jasper, Minnesota and Bloomington, Minnesota.  He coaced football, basketball, and track.  He was instrumental in starting Trackorama, the larges one-day track meet in the Midwest and possibly the nation. 

Ochs is involved in N.E.A., S.D.E.A., and M.E.A.  His honors include Teacher of the Year and Cross-Country Coach of the Year in 1972.  Ochs Married Katherine Decker in 1940 and together they have five children and three grandchildren.
