Vern Jark has excelled both in his collegiate years at Northern and in his professonal field as a coach.  While at NSU, he participated in three sports: football, baseball and basketball, earning him a total of 12 letters.  In baseball post-season action, he earned recognition for this team effort all four years, which led him to a 13th-round Free Agen Draft by the Chicago Cubs in 1976.  As a basketball player, Jack led the SDIC Conference in free-throw percentage in 1975, ranking eighth in NAIA nationally.  Jark earned All-Conference SDIC Honorable Mention in 1972 and 1975 and All-Region Baseball Team Honorable Mention in 1973 and 1975. 

Jark graduated from NSU with bachelor of science and master's degrees.  Jark is also actively involved in the Aberdeen community.  Jark has close ties with First Baptist Church, where he serves as Deacon and Sunday school teacher and he also helps support Northern State Univerisity as a member of the NSU Wolves Club.
