Northern State Athletics Hall of Fame
Richard Conrad Cooper attended Northern for three and a half years. He continued his education at University of Minnesota where he received his bachelor of science degree in civil engineering. While at Northern, Cooper established a reputation for himself as an athlete of exceptional ability. He played center for Northern's football team and received honorable mention as All-Conference center. Cooper also participated in basketball and track. The 1921 Pasque described him as a "hard, clean player, who worked steadily for a successful season."
Cooper is a member of the American Iron and Steel Institute, American Institute of Industrial Engineers, Association of Iron and Steel Engineers, Pennsylvania Society for advancement of Management, and the Engineers' Society of Western Pennsylvania. Cooper is also a Chairman of the Board of Directors of Sewickley Valley Hospital. In 1961, he received the Professional Manager Citation of the Pittsburgh Chapter of the Society for the Advancement of Management.
Cooper married Irene Virginia Johnson in 1929.
