Northern State Athletics Hall of Fame
Daryl Merkwan played on four SDIC championship football teams from 1965-1968. Merkwan earned honorable mention ALL-SDIC honors his junior year. Merkwan was a Northern co-captain and he earned all-conference and all-district honors. Merkwan was named the outstanding lineman in the district and earned second team NAIA All-American honors as a linebacker.
He graduated in 1968 with a major in economics. Merkwan earned a Purple Heart and Bronze Star in the military. He currently works as a letter carrier for the U.S. Postal Service and is a member of the national letter carriers' association.
Merkwan and his wife, Leah, have two children.
