Northern State University Athletics

Mel Klein played on four South Dakota Intercollegiate Conference championship teams, three NAIA district champions and three national tournament teams.  He was named to the second team NAIA All-American squad. 

Klein taught and coached at Sioux Falls O'Gorman until 1968 and then was an assistand basketball coach the the University of South Dakota for three seasons.  He then became head coach at Augustana in 1971.  He was NCAA Division II Coach of the Year for Region V in 1972-73 and Northern's Alumni Coach of the Year in 1975.
