Northern State University Athletics

Walter received his B.S. in teaching, business and physical education in 1964. As a track athlete at Northern, Walter was conference champion in the 100, 220 and 400 yard dashes for three consecutive years and earned the record in all three events for NSU. He was also a member of the men’s basketball team where he lettered and participated in the conference championship and represented Northern in the national tournament. In addition, he had an outstanding coaching career in both Wyoming and Arizona. Walter and his wife Linda currently live in Tucson, Ariz., where he is a retired engineer for Union Pacific.
