Ruth Marske was the first women inducted into Northern State's Athletic Hall of Fame.  Marske has an enviable reputation in track and field at the state and national levels.  She graduated with a bachelor of science degree in physical education in 1955. 

Marske returned to South Dakota as a member of the faculty at South Dakota State University.  In addition, she was an assistant to the athletic director, undergraduate physical education coordinator, and head women's track and field coach. 

Marske served as president of the South Dakota Association of Intercollegiate Athletics for Womein in 1978-80, Marske chaired the NCAA women's track and field committee from 1983-85, served as a sub-chair for the NCAA Division II women's track and field committee from 1980-85 and became chair.
