Northern State Athletics Hall of Fame
Joe Engelhart was a track standout while a student at Northern. He was a team captain in 1936 and 1937 and qualified in the regional Olympic trials in 1936. He was also a standout in the classroom, being selected as a member of the Order of Gray Gowns, which was made up of the ten highest ranking scholars in the junior class. In addition to Gray Gowns, he was the recipient of the Lions Club Award for scholarship and athletics in 1936.
Engelhart graduated from Northern in 1937 with a B.S. degree. From that time until his retirement in May 1971, he was employed by the Internal Revenue Service.
