Northern State Athletics Hall of Fame
Bob Wachs was a longtime coach for the Wolves' men's basketball team. Wachs compiled a 532-286 record in 30 seasons of coaching at Northern. He took the Wolves to national tournaments eight times (1957, 1958, 1959, 1961, 1970, 1971, 1983, 1984). Northern captured district championships in each of those eight years. In 1984, Wachs was named NAIA Area III Coach of the Year and also won his 500th game.
His teams won ten South Dakota Intercollegiate Conference basketball titles and two Northern Intercollegiate titles. He began his 1984-85 season third on a list of the winningest coaches in the NAIA. Wachs has coached three All-Americans -- Mel Klein, Gary Evjen and Scott Bosanko.
Wachs and his wife, Salona, have three sons.
