Laura (Hummel) Schuster burst onto the women's basketball scene as a freshman, earning second-team All-Tournament honors at the 1981 NAIA National Tournament after helping NSU finish third. The long-range shooter helped NSU to an impressive 90-17 record during her career from 1980-84. Schuster was the seventh women's basketball player in NSU history to reach the 1,000-point barrier, tallying 1,017 points during her career from 1980-84. She is currently 22nd on NSU's career scoring chart and a constant in NSU's record book, ranking seventh in steals and 14th in assists.Â
Schuster graduated in 1984 with a bachelor's degree in education. She earned a master's degree in guidance and counseling in 1989 and another master's degree in secondary school administration on 1991. She earned the Webster Jaycees Outstanding Young Educator award in 1992-93 and also earned the 1998-99 S.D. Administrator of the Year award.Â
She and her husband, Kent, have two children.Â
