William Jordan was a student-athlete at Northern State College where he received his bachelors degree in 1954.  While at NSC he was a first team all-conference basketball player, 1953-1954, first team all-state college and university football player, 1953 and conference champ in the 440 yard dash and 220 yard low hurdles in 1953 and 1954.  Jordan was a graduate assistand in physical education at NSC, teaching in the service and undergraduate programs.  He assisted with football, basketball and track while he received his masters degree.  From 1958-1961 he advanced from instructor to assistand professor in health, physical education and recreation at Northern and assisted in football, basketball, and track, becoming the head track coach in 1960.  He returned to NSC from 1962-1966 where he advanced from assistand professor to associate professor and was head track and assistant football coach. 

Jordan is chairman of the research committee for the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics, recorder for the South Dakota Intercollegiate Conference and secretary of the Purple and Gold Foundation.  He is a past member of the United States Olympic Committee for Track and Field, past State Games Director of South Dakota Special Olympics, past member of the National Advisory Council for Special Olympics, past chairman of the Football Committee for District 12 of the NAIA, past president of the South Dakota Association of the AAU and United States Olympic Committee Supervisor for Long Distance Running Training Camin.

Jordan Married Barbara Boetcher and they have three children.
