E.J. "Mike" Close attended Northern Normal and Industrial School in 1925.  His Honors include Lifetime Honorary Member of the National Athletic Trainers Association, Award of Merit from the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics and advisory member to the NCAA football rules committee.
