Mike Sweetman suited up for the Northern State men’s tennis team for four years. In 1978 he won the men’s singles division at the state tournament and paired up with Mark Flannery to take a share of the men’s doubles title. In 1980 he helped his teammates win the District 12 title by winning both the men’s singles and the men’s doubles with teammate Mark Parrott. His senior season, he was named 1981 NIC’s Most Valuable Player and helped his team compile a 16-1 record on the season. That same year, he became the first and only Wolves athlete to receive All-American honors in tennis. Sweetman was also involved in the Pi Gamma Mu social science honor society.
