Amy Scepaniak (Ellis) graduated from NSU in 1993 with a degree in Special Education. She was a two sport athlete during her time at NSU as a member of the volleyball and track teams. Amy excelled on the volleyball squad as she became a starter her freshman year. She led her team to the second best blocking average in the Northern Sun Conference as a freshman. She led the conference individually in blocking as a freshman as well. She still holds several school records including most solo blocks in a match (10) vs Morris in 1989, most solo blocks in a season (83) in 1990, most solo blocks in a career (237), held record for most assisted blocks in a career (328) before having it broken in 2002, and most total blocks in a career (588).

On the track team, Amy was a standout jumper and thrower. In 1990, she was named to the All-Northern Sun Conference team as a freshman thrower. She was a four-time all-NSIC selection and placed second at the NAIA Dist. 12 Championships five times in her career. She qualified for the NAIA national outdoor meet in 1992 and 1993. As a senior, she took 6
th and received All-American honors. When she graduated in 1993, she held the school record in the discus, which has since been broken. In 2007, Amy was inducted into the Northern State University Athletic Hall of Fame.
After she left NSU, Amy worked at the South Dakota School for the Blind and Visually Impaired for 13 years. She received her Orientation and Mobility Certification from the University of Northern Colorado in 2000 and a Master’s Degree in Low Vision Rehabilitation from Pennsylvania College of Optometry in 2004.
Amy and her husband, Justin, have three daughters, Samantha, Sara, and Summer. She is a loyal fan of her daughters’ soccer, volleyball, basketball, and dance teams.
