Josh earned his Bachelor of Science in Education in Composite Health and Physical Education in 1996 before returning for his Masters in 1999. He was a National Place Winner during the 1992 and 1993 outdoor seasons, while receiving All-American status in 1993. An 18-time All-Conference selection and 12-time Conference Champion, Josh holds school records in the 4x200 relay, 4x400 relay, and sprint medley relay. In 1995 he was named the NSIC most valuable outdoor track athlete. In 2014, Josh was inducted into the Northern State University Athletic Hall of Fame.

Josh and his wife Marianne reside is Huron with their children Jackson and Abby. Josh is a Spanish teacher and track coach at Huron High School, after spending time teaching in the Marshall Islands and Paraguay.
