One All-Conference Performance, One School Record, and Multiple Advancers for Day One of NSIC Championships

Mankato, Minn. – Northern State University track and field teams closed out the opening day of the NSIC Indoor Championships advancing 11 to the finals on Saturday. In addition, one athlete tallied an all-conference award and event win, one school record was broken, and multiple top-8 finishers as well. Northern heads into Saturday ranked third (men) with 31 points and fourth (women) with 16 points.
 
MEN'S HIGHLIGHTS
 
  • Birnir Vagn Finnsson sits in first place in the heptathlon event with marks of 7.13 seconds in the 60m, 6.93m in the long jump, 11.33m in shot put, and 1.92m in high jump with 2,931 points in total
  • Isaac Ligon is ranked tenth in the heptathlon, and he will go into Saturday with 2,383 points and marks of 7.46 in the 60m, 5.90m in the long jump, 10.48m in shot put, and 1.74m in high jump
  • Sean Juengst is in 13th place in the heptathlon with 2,247 points and marks of 7.90 in the 60m, 5.77m in the long jump, 10.14m in the shot put,  and 1.80m in the high jump
  • Northern State men scored big in the pole vault event with Sam Tremelling leading the way as the NSIC champion in the event and hitting the height of 4.77m
  • Eli Radtke and Noah Ford followed in fourth and sixth with marks of 4.57m
  • Treyson Schulz landed on the podium with an eighth place finish and personal record of 6.85m in the long jump
  • Nick Olson tallied a fourth place finish in the weight throw with a toss of 17.44m
  • Nathan Alto notched an eighth place finish in the 5000m distance event clocking a personal record of 15:02.81
  • The distance medley relay team of Nathan Alto, Damon Roggenbuck, Ricky Berndt, and Josh Martin broke the school record with a time of 10:10.52 and placed third overall
  • Both Chris Weber and Noah Bayer qualified for Saturdays finals in the 60m prelims with personal records of 6.88 and 6.91 sitting in sixth and eighth place
  • Joel Matehs time of 8.22 in the 60m hurdles qualifies him for eighth place in the finals
  • Drew Salfrank moves on to finals in the 400m dash with a time of 50 seconds flat in seventh place
  • Dylan Schimke and Carter Dingman ranked fourth and seventh with qualifying times of 1.24.02 and 1:24.15 in the 600m
  • Dalton Fleckenstein is placed fifth in a time of 1:57.35 in the 800m heading in to finals
  • Josh Martin qualified for finals in the 1000m in third place with a time of 2:33.05
 
WOMEN'S HIGHLIGHTS
 
  • Jordan Tschumperlin hopped onto the podium with a sixth place finish in the high jump with a mark of 1.64m
  • Cassidy Gough finished tallied a personal record in the weight throw with a distance of 17.40m and a fourth place finish
  • Kenzee Danielson and Bekah Walz tied for fourth place in pole vault with a height of 3.53m
  • Megan Pickering placed seventh in the 5000m distance race with a time of 17:46.48
  • Kyanna Collymore qualified for finals in the 400m with a time of 58.67 in eighth place
  • Alli Jackson and Summer Carlson move on to Saturdays finals in the 600m ranked fifth and sixth with times of 1:38.29 and 1:38.80
 
BEYOND THE RESULTS
 
  • In addition to his NISC win in the pole vault event, Sam Tremelling earned NSIC All-Conference accolades
  • The distance medley team broke the relay record for the event which was previously held by Jayce Seelig, Austin Suther, Jake Arechigo, and Richard Keroack from 2012
                                                                                                                  
 
UP NEXT
 
Northern State continues to compete in the NSIC Championships tomorrow at 9:00 a.m. from the Myers Filed House. Women's heptathlon will start the day's events followed by women's shot put and men's high jump at 1:00 p.m. and the women's mile at 1:30 p.m.
