Wolves Conquer Dragons in Gypsy Days Dual Meet

Aberdeen, S.D. – For the first time in program history the Northern State swim team defeated MSU Moorhead in a dual meet, doing so in dominate fashion with a 117-81 victory. The Wolves swam to seven event wins in 11 events and tallied 15 top-3 finishes in individual events.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Northern State edged out a win in the opening relay of the afternoon, as the team of Maddie Gonzales, Mayson Sheldon, Lauren Forsyth, and Brianna Back swam to a time of 1:54.93 in the 200 yard medley relay, 0.65 seconds ahead of the MSU Moorhead team in second place
  • Hannah Rodts captured her first event win of her career in the 1,000 yard freestyle, hitting the wall in a time of 11:34.75, which 13.22 seconds ahead of the MSUM swimmer in second place
  • Northern swam to a one-two finish in the 200 yard freestyle as Haley Osborne earned her first win of the day with a time of 2:02.97 and was followed by Maddie Gonzales in the runner-up position with a time of 2:06.38
  • Delaney Ryken was NSU's top finisher in the 50 yard freestyle, earning a runner-up finish with a time of 25.75
  • Lilly Grebner was dominate in the 400 yard IM as she cruised to a 21.10 second victory, swimming to a time of 4:36.97; Brianna Back rounded out the top-3 with a time of 5:13.32
  • For the second time in the meet Northern State swam to one-two finishes, this time in the 100 yard butterfly as Grebner won her second race of the afternoon with a time of 58.36 and Forsyth earned a runner-up finish with a time of 59.92
  • Ryken was the Wolves top finisher in the 100 yard freestyle with a time of 57.26, just 0.03 seconds ahead of Mia Fursedonne who rounded out the top-3 with a time of 57.29
  • Gonzales earned a runner-up finish for Northern State in the 100 yard backstroke, hitting the wall in a time of 1:02.30
  • Osborne claimed her second win of the day with a victory in the 500 yard freestyle, swimming to a time of 5:35.77, which was 7.25 seconds ahead of second place; Hannah Kiernan rounded out the top-3 with a time of 5:44.40
  • Sheldon led NSU in the 100 yard breaststroke as she claimed a second place finish with a time of 1:11.55, and Ali Jones was close behind with a time of 1:15.21 in third place
  • Northern State closed out the dual meet with a victory in the 400 yard freestyle relay as Fursedonne, Ryken, Grebner, and Osborne swam to a time of 3:42.92

UP NEXT
Next weekend on Saturday, October 15, the Wolves will travel to Brookings to compete in the SDSU Triangular against South Dakota State and Iowa Central Community College. The dual meet is scheduled to start at 6 p.m. at the Marshall Center Pool.
