Brookings, S.D. – The Northern State University track and field teams put together an outstanding day from the SDSU Last Chance. The Wolves improved up their national marks, climbed into the top-10 of the NSIC standings, and broke four school records from the meet.
WOMEN'S TOP RESULTS
- Isabel Kinzer and Emma Rezac tallied second and fourth place finishes in the 400m, notching times of 58.33 and 59.06 respectively
- Jennifer Clark rounded out the top-10 of the 800m run, crossing the finish line in 2:23.61
- Shanice Burrell finished second in the 60m hurdles notching a time of 8.80, which she also ran in the prelims of the event
- Tava Berg was the top Division II finisher, taking second in the high jump with a school record and automatic qualifying mark of 1.75m (5-08.75)
- Jordyn Huneke tallied a sixth place finish in the pole vault with a 3.77m (12-04.50) mark, followed by Christine Nefzger, Kenzee Danielson, and Kealy Hill in tenth, clearing 3.32m (10-10.75)
- Shona Juliana tallied a school record of her own in the long jump, recording a mark of 5.68m (18-07.75)
- Juliana added a fifth place finish in the triple, jumping 10.96m (35-11.50)
- Jordan Menken took 12th in the shot put, throwing 13.01m (43-08.25)
MEN'S TOP RESULTS
- Terry Towah had a solid day on the track taking third in the 60m (6.91) and winning the 200m with a school record time of 21.73
- Tafara Hondonga tallied a ninth place finish in the 200m (22.74) and second place finish in the 400m (49.74)
- Ronald Stephenson added a fifth place finish in the 400m, crossing the line in 50.49
- Seth Martens was the runner-up in the 600m run, notching a time of 1:24.63
- Jorge Garcia led the way in the 1000m, taking third with a time of 2:33.93, while Michael Wirth (2:42.33), Donovan Miller (2:42.84), Jalen Chase (2:45.58), and Nickolas Baier (2:47.58) followed in fifth, sixth, ninth, and tenth place
- The 4x400m relay team of Brady Janssen, Stephenson, Chase Domier, and Caleb Schlekeway won the race with a time of 3:31.95
- Zach Burns landed in the top-10 of the pole vault, clearing 4.25m (13-11.25)
- Tanner Berg opened his day with a fifth place finish in the shot put, throwing 16.25m (53-03.75)
- Berg then blew out the field in the weight, breaking his own school record with a 22.55m (73-11.75) toss; the throw is the third best in NCAA Division II history
BEYOND THE RESULTS
- Jordyn Sterud tallied a personal record of 5:18.12 in the mile, finishing 12th overall
- Tava Berg broke her own school record in the high jump clearing 1.75m, which now ranks her fourth nationally
- Shona Juliana's school record in the long jump of 5.68m, bests the mark set earlier this year of 5.65m by teammate Dakota Hutzler
- Terry Towah broke his own school record in the 200m of 22.03, finishing in 21.73 which currently ranks him first in the NSIC and in the top-25 nationally
- Tanner Berg continued his dominance in the weight throw, re-breaking his school record with a mark of 22.55m and extending his lead atop the national marks
