Track and Field Improves Upon Early Season Marks

Brookings, S.D. – The Northern State University track and field teams dropped three school records from the SDSU Jim Emmerich Invite earlier today. The Wolves competed against athletes from South Dakota State, North Dakota State, University of North Dakota, and Augustana.

WOMEN'S TOP RESULTS
  • Jordyn Sterud led the team in the mile run, taking ninth with a time of 5:24.09, as the top Division II finisher
  • Shona Juliana and Dakota Hutzler tallied third and seventh place finishes in the long jump with marks of 5.48m and 5.33m respectively; Juliana was the top Division II placer
  • Juliana added a fourth place finish in the triple jump with an 11.05m mark
  • Shanice Burrell and Hutzler advanced to finals in the 60m hurdles, taking third and fifth with times of 8.82 and 9.22; Burrell is just .03 seconds off the NCAA National Provisional mark in the event
  • Makenna Larson added a finals appearance of her own in the 60m dash, finishing in fifth with a time of 8.05; and followed that up with a fourth place finish in the 200m with a time of 26.71
  • Emma Rezac and Isabel Kinzer tallied third and fourth place finishes in the 400m, recording times of 58.95 and 59.24
  • The 4x400m relay team of Kinzer, Hutzler, Tori Collesso, and Rezac took fourth, crossing the line in 4:02.67
  • Tava Berg re-broke her school record, improving her national provisional mark to 1.73m in second overall
  • Jordyn Huneke notched her third pole vault victory of the season, clearing 3.80m; and was followed by teammates Kenzee Danielson and Christine Nefzger in fourth and fifth, clearing 3.40M
 
MEN'S TOP RESULTS
  • Darrian Hood tallied a sixth place finish in the long jump and was the second Division II placer recording a mark of 6.35m
  • Hood added a fourth place finish in the triple jump, notching a mark of 13.00m
  • Terry Towah and Dakota Larson led the pack in the 60m dash, notching times of 6.93 and 7.12 in second and fourth place
  • Towah followed up that performance with a school record breaking second place finish in the 200m, crossing the line at 22.03 behind Hilton of SDSU
  • Brady Janssen tallied a sixth place finish in the 200m, notching a time of 23.33
  • Tafara Hondonga was the top Division II finisher in the 400m, recording a time of 49.74 in fourth place
  • Seth Martens rounded out the top-10 in the 600m run, crossing the finish line in 1:25.39
  • Jackson Harrison took tenth in the mile run, finishing in 4:22.18
  • The 4x400m relay team of Hondonga, Ronald Stephenson, Martens, and Maxwell Geditz took third with a time of 3:25.43 behind teams from NDSU and SDSU
  • Tanner Berg had a day, competing against some of the top competition at the Division I level, notching a win the weight throw and eighth place finish in the shot put
  • Berg broke his own school record in the weight, throwing 21.80m and notched a mark of 16.46m in the shot put
 
BEYOND THE RESULTS
  • Tava Berg broke her own school record by .05m, climbing up the NCAA National Qualifying list
  • Tanner Berg broke his school record by .30m in the weight throw, widening the gap at the top of the nation in the event
  • Towah's time of 22.03 in the 200m, dropped Isaiha Fletcher's school record of 22.05 set just a season ago

UP NEXT
