Northern Opens NSIC Championships Tomorrow from Bismarck

Aberdeen, S.D. – The Northern State University swim team will open the NSIC Championships from Bismarck tomorrow morning. The championships runs February 12-15 with two sessions each day beginning at 10 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. from the BSC Aquatic & Wellness Center. QUICK HITS ON THE WOLVES
  • Northern enters the post season following a 1-13 dual meet record in 2019-20
  • NSU's dual victory came against Minnesota Morris on November 8 with a score of 166-64
  • In addition to the dual slate, the Wolves competed at the Rochester Invite in early December
  • The Wolves last competed at the UMary Sprint Pentathlon led by Marialuisa Avila in seventh, Emma Murdock in eighth, and Shayna Asuncion in tenth

THE WOLVES RETURNERS A SEASON AGO
  • Northern took seventh from the NSIC Championships in 2019 with 210 team points
  • Josie Gillund and Jordan Metz advanced to finals in the 1000 free, taking 22nd and 24th with times of 11:04.25 and 11:19.55
  • Metz added a 19th place finish in the 1650 free, notching a time of 19:38.70
  • Lexie Malimanek advanced to finals in the 400 IM and finished the meet with a time of 5:05.83
  • Gillund went on to place 16th in the 200 free, hitting the wall at 1:59.43, 21st in the 500 free with a time of 5:22.30, and 21st in the 100 free with a time of 54.17
  • Shayna Asuncion placed 15th in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:08.66 and 18th in the 100 IM, finishing in 1:02.19
