Biography
2019-20: Swam personal bests in the 50 free (26.17), 50 breast (31.50), 100 back (1:08.23), 200 breast (2:28.59), 100 IM (1:01.76), 200 IM (2:17.09), and 400 IM (5:13.90)… Ranked in the top-25 in the NSIC in the 50 breast, 100 breast, and 200 breast…
2018-19: Shayna in her junior year recorded top times in the 100 free, 100 breast, and 200 breast… At the Rochester Invite, she recorded her best times in the 100 breast with a time of 1:07.40… She also recorded her best time in the 200 breast at the Rochester Invite with a time of 2:29.47… At the NSIC Championships finished in 15th place in the 100 breast and 18th in the 100 IM… She was part of the 200 freestyle relay that broke the school record...
Pre-NSU: Shayna Asuncion is a 5-foot, butterfly, breaststroke, and individual medley swimmer out of Pearl City High School and Iowa Lakes Community College. As a prep, Asuncion was a 2-year letter winner for the Chargers under head coach Ken Suenaga, earning most outstanding swimmer in her sophomore season. The Kamehameha Swim Club won the Hawaii State Championship from 2002-17 with Asuncion on the squad. In her first two seasons at the collegiate level, Asuncion notched All-American honors in four events. At the 2018 NJCAA Championships, she finished fifth in the 50 breast, fourth in the 400 IM, third in the 200 breast, and sixth in the 100 IM. Asuncion is the Iowa Lakes school record holder in the 100 IM with her time set at the NJCAA Championships. She is the daughter of Chanlaad and Regina Asuncion.
