Day One of SDSU D2 Open

Brookings, S.D. – Northern State University track and field traveled to SDSU to compete in day one of the D2/NAIA Open. The men's team is sitting in fifth place with 12 points and the women's team is in second with 24 points.
 
MEN'S HIGHLIGHTS
   
WOMEN'S HIGHLIGHTS
 
  • In the Women's pentathlon Morgan Sheldon finished second with 3,067 points and marks of 9.31 in the 60 hurdles, 1.51m in the high jump, 10.07m in the shot put, 4.73 for long jump, and 2:40.43 in the 800m
  • Karli Klein finished fourth in the pentathlon with 2,739 points and a marks of 9.56 (60 hurdles), 1.42m(high jump), 9.53m (shot put), 3.93m (long jump), and 2:36.14 (800m)
  • Tayla Dobrenski was eighth with 2,634 points and marks of 9.83 (60 hurdles), 1.54m(high jump), 9.10m (shot put), 4.45m (long jump), and 3:03.11 (800m)
  • Jordan West was tenth with 2,424 points and marks of 10.78 (60 hurdles), 1.42m(high jump), 8.84m (shot put), 4.34m (long jump), and 2:48.95 (800m
  • Megan Pickering won with the 5000m with a time of 17:40.97 defeating the runner up by 40 seconds
 
BEYOND THE RESULTS
 
  • The previous record for the 4x800m was set in 2018 by alumni Itoiz Rodriguez, Donovan Miller, Adam Leach, and Jacob Schweitzer with a time of 7:57.46
 
UP NEXT
 
Northern returns to the Sanford Jackrabbit Athletic Complex tomorrow for day two. Men's heptathlon will continue tomorrow morning at 9:30 a.m. followed by field events and running events at 12:00 p.m.
