Wolves Place Fourth with Three Conference Champions from NSIC Meet

Mankato, Minn. – The Northern State University men's track and field team took fourth from the NSIC Indoor Championships on Friday evening. The Wolves earned 63.50 team points, just 4.5 points off the third place finisher MSU Moorhead.
 
NORTHERN STATE HIGHLIGHTS
  • Tanner Berg won the first conference championship of the meet for the Wolves, breaking the NSIC meet record in the weight throw with a 21.23m (69-08.00) toss
  • Zach Burns notched 1.5 teams points for the Wolves, taking seventh in the pole vault with a 4.12m (13-06.25) mark
  • Jackson Harrison also notched a seventh place finish in the 5000m run, notching a time of 15:11.73
  • Tafara Hondonga was the second all-conference honoree at the meet as the 400m runner-up with a time of 49.66
  • Terry Towah just missed all-conference honors in the 60m dash, taking fourth overall with a time of 6.93
  • Berg went on to win the shot put, with a new school record throw of 17.40m (57-01.00), adding ten more team points to the total
  • Terry Towah won a conference championship of his own in the 200m dash, crossing the finish line in 22.10
  • Jorge Garcia took fifth in the 1000m run, earning four team points with a time of 2:33.08
  • The distance medley relay team of Garcia, Brady Janssen, Donovan Miller, and Jackson Harrison took fourth overall with a time of 10:30.50
  • The 4x400m relay closed out the day for the Wolves with a runner-up finish; the team of Hondonga, Ronald Stephenson, Seth Martens, and Towah ran to a time of 3:22.52
 
BEYOND THE RESULTS
  • Berg defeated the next closest opponent by over three feet, with every one of his five attempts besting the 20.18m runner-up mark
  • Berg also three feet longer than the runner-up in the shot put for his second conference championship of the day, breaking the school record set by Gerald Schlekeway in 1965 of 17.27m (56-08.00)
  • Berg and Towah landed in the top-10 individual scorers list notching 20 and 17 points respectively for the team

"Coming in to today we were set-up well to compete and we executed well, with successful performances from our athletes. I was very impressed by our distance medley relay and 4x400m relay finishes. They knew what they needed to do to secure our fourth place standing and overall competed well today."
