Vermillion, S.D. – The Northern State University track and field teams competed on the second and final day of the USD Early Bird Invite, coming away with 17 top-10 finishes. In addition, provisional marks and school records fell to the Wolves.
MEN'S HIGHLIGHTS
- Sean Juengst finished in 12th place with 4,880 points in the decathlon with marks of 12.59 in the 100m, 5.43m in the long jump, 9.88m in shot put, 1.73m in high jump, 56.96 in the 400, 19.40 in the 110m hurdles, 29.48m in the discus throw, 3.80m in the pole vault, 40.86m in the javelin and 5:23.00 in the 1500m
- Brener Conrad took 14th with 4,684 points in the decathlon with marks of 11.60 in the 100m, 5.29m in the long jump, 10.18m in shot put, 1.55m in high jump, 53.37 in the 400m, 20.52 in the 110m hurdles, 26.54m in the discus throw, 2.70m in the pole vault, 40.32m in the javelin and 5:13.31 in the 1500m
- Chris Weber ran the 100m in a personal record of 10.85 for 18th place
- Joel Matehs placed eighth in the 110m hurdles with a time of 15.14
- Drew Salfrank and Seth Martens finished third and fourth in the 400m clocking times of 49.77 and 50.20, followed by Carter Dingman in 16th with a time of 51.47
- Kaden St. Pierre, Nick Olson, and Ethan Barnett placed 16th, 18th, and 22nd in the discus throw with marks of 40.20m, 39.41m, and 38.67m
- Birnir Vagn Finnsson and Vance Borchers placed eighth and ninth in the high jump with heights of 1.85m
- Levi Reis, Carson Barnett, and Damon Roggenbuck each notched personal records in the javelin, placing second, third, and fifth with marks of 62.29m, 58.73m, and 56.35m
- Isaac Ligon, Finnsson, and Vance Borchers with set personal records placed 13th, 15th, and 19th, in the javelin throw with marks of 48.25m, 46.34m, and 44.21m
- Treyson Schulz and Jackson Willis both competed in the long jump placing 20th and 25th with distances of 6.39m, and 6.10m
- Schulz took tenth in the triple jump with a mark of 13.11m
- Noah Ford, Eli Radtke, and Isaac Ligon placed fifth, eighth, and 11th with marks of 4.71m, 4.41m, and 4.26m in the pole vault
- The men's 4x100m relay took fourth with athletes Weber, Matehs, Bayer, and Martens in a time of 42.69
- The 4x400m relay placed fourth in a time of 3:31.47 with athletes Roggenbuck, Dylan Schimke, Drew Henriksen, and Dingman
WOMEN'S HIGHLIGHTS
- Morgan Sheldon finished in fifth place with 3,958 points in the heptathlon with marks of 15.76 in the 100m hurdles, 1.54m in high jump, 10.19m in shot put, 28.07 in the 200m, 4.51m in long jump, 30.78m in javelin, and 2:50.41 in the 800m
- Addison Cumbow took eighth place with 3,499 points in the heptathlon with marks of 16.05 in the 100m hurdles, 1.45m in the high jump, 7.40m in shot put, 28.61 in the 200m, 4.82m in long jump, 31.34m in javelin, and 3:08.18 in the 800m
- Renea Taylor ran to a sixth place finish in the 100m clocking 11.93
- Karli Klein placed 23rd in the 100m prelims with a time of 16.09
- Kyanna Collymore and Alli Jackson both ran the 400m placing third and 15th with times of 59.48 and 1:03.73
- Cassidy Gough threw a provisional mark of 53.30m in the hammer throw to place fourth
- Emily Breske, Jordan Tschumperlin, and Tayla Dobrenski placed 12th, 14th, and 24th with heights of 1.55m, 1.50m, and 1.45m in high jump
- Danielle Hawley recorded a new personal record in the shot put with a mark of 12.16m placing her in 11th
- Andi Mehrer and Paige Bishop finished 18th and 25th in shot put with throws of 11.45m and 10.85m
- Kamryn Schwartz and Alison Theis placed 19th and 21st in the triple jump with marks of 9.76m and 9.73m
- The 4x400m relay took third finishing in a time of 4:11.58 with athletes Collymore, Jackson, Summer Carlson, and Taylor
BEYOND THE RESULTS
- Levi Reis and Carson Barnett both hit the provisional mark in javelin placing them 17th and 36th nationally
- Reis also set a new school record in the javelin, besting the 2011 mark of 60.03m set by current throws coach Jon Evenson
UP NEXT
The Northern State University track and field team are slated to run the Sioux City Relays on April 13
th. The meet will be hosted by Morningside University in the Elwood Olsen Stadium.
