Aberdeen, S.D. – The Northern State swim team capped their opening weekend of the 2022-23 season with a dominant win over Concordia-St. Paul by a score of 142-55. The Wolves won ten of the 11 events on the day.

HOW IT HAPPENED

• The Northern State 200 Medley Relay team of Maddie Gonzales, Mayson Sheldon, Lauren Forsyth, and Brianna Back swam to a winning time of 1:54.64 to open the meet
• Haley Osborne opened the individual events with a win in the 1000 Free for the Wolves, hitting the wall in a time of 11:31.88
• Freshman Lilly Grebner scored an upset win in the 200 Free with a time of 1:56.73, beating CSP's Farida Maher who hit an NCAA B-Cut time in the event a season ago
• Delaney Ryken notched a win in the 50 Free for NSU, finishing with a time of 25.97
• Maddie Gonzales led the way for Northern in the 200 IM as the Wolves claimed the top three placings in the event; Gonzales finished with a time of 2:22.13, followed by Mayson Sheldon (2:24.69) and Hannah Kiernan (2:25.09)
• Grebner earned win number two of the night in the 100 Fly with a time of 59.90, finishing ahead of teammate Lauren Forsyth with a time of 1:00.98
• Osborne paced the Wolves in the 100 Free with a time of 56.94, followed by Ryken earning a runner-up finish with a time of 57.51
• Gonzales earned her second win of the day with a victory in the 100 Back, hitting the wall in a time of 1:02.99
• Hannah Rodts and Ali Jones placed second and third respectively in the 500 Free, finishing with times of 5:34.28 and 5:57.71
• Sheldon earned an individual win the 100 Breast with a time of 1:12.57
• Northern State closed the meet with their second relay win of the night, taking first place in the 200 Free Relay with the team of Mia Fursedonne, Delaney Ryken, Lilly Grebner, and Haley Osborne finishing with a time of 1:43.79

The next meet on the schedule for the Wolves will be an Intrasquad Meet on October 6 with the time to be announced in the coming weeks. Northern State will then host MSU Moorhead on October 7 with a 2 p.m. start time. Both meets will be held at the Aberdeen YMCA.
