Northern State Set for Weekend Competition at USF Quad-Meet

Aberdeen, S.D. – The Northern State swim team is set for two days of competition this weekend against three familiar conference foes. The Wolves will take on Augustana, MSU Moorhead, and Sioux Falls in dual meet competitions at the USF Quad-Meet on Friday and Saturday at the Midco Aquatic Center in Sioux Falls. Friday's duals are scheduled for a 5 p.m. start time and Saturday's duals are set for a 10 a.m. start time.

NORTHERN STATE STORYLINES
  • Northern State enters this weekend's quad-meet with a dual meet record of 4-2, the Wolves are 3-1 against NSIC competition
  • Northern last competed on October 15 in a tri-meet against South Dakota State and Iowa Central, NSU split the duals with a win over ICCC (111-80) but fell to SDSU (118-75)
  • The Wolves have recorded 16 individual wins, 39 individual top-3 finishes, and seven relay wins this season
  • Lilly Grebner has recorded a team-high seven individual wins and seven top-3 finishes this season, while Grebner and Lauren Forsyth have been a part of a team-high five relay wins this season
  • Grebner has set Northern State Freshman Record's in the 200 yard IM (2:08.48) and the 400 yard IM (4:36.97), her times lead the NSIC and rank tenth and 12th nationally in the respective events
  • Grebner has been named the NSIC Swimmer of the Week twice this season on September 27 and October 11
  • Haley Osborne is second on the team with four individual wins this season, and she is tied with Maddie Gonzales for second on the team with five individual top-3 finishes
  • Forsyth ranks within the top-10 of the NSIC in two events, she is sixth in the 50 yard butterfly (27.69) and tenth in the 100 yard butterfly (59.92)
  • Gonzales ranks within the top-15 of the NSIC in two events, she is tenth in the 50 yard backstroke (28.98) and is 13th in the 100 yard backstroke (1:02.30)
AUGUSTANA STORYLINES
  • Augustana enters this weekend's quad-meet with a dual meet record of 4-0, the Vikings are 2-0 against NSIC competition
  • Augie last competed on October 14 when they hosted South Dakota State in a dual meet, the Vikings defeated the Jackrabbits by a score of 189-109
  • The Vikings have recorded 28 individual wins, 74 individual top-3 finishes, and six relay wins this season
  • Ella Ward-Zeller leads the team with eight individual victories, and she is tied with Angelina Chan for the team lead with eight top-3 finishes
  • Bryn Greenwaldt holds the top times nationally in the 50 yard freestyle (23.26) and the 50 yard backstroke (26.15); Nesrine Jelliti ranks fourth and fifth nationally respectively in the 100 yard breaststroke (1:05.11) and the 50 yard breaststroke (30.12) while Ward-Zeller ranks sixth nationally in the 200 yard backstroke (2:05.46)
  • Lindsie Micko is in her seventh season as the head swimming and diving coach at Augustana
LAST MATCH-UP
  • Northern State and Augustana last competed against each other on November 5, 2021, at the Aberdeen YMCA, the Vikings won the dual meet by a score of 192-70
  • Maddie Gonzales recorded the lone win (200 yard backstroke) of the dual meet for the Wolves, while Lauren Forsyth (200 yard butterfly) and Haley Osborne (100 yard freestyle) earned runner-up finishes

  • Charlie King is in his fifth season as the head swimming and diving coach at MSU Moorhead

  • Northern State earned their first ever dual meet win over MSU Moorhead two weeks ago on October 7, defeating the Dragons 117-81 at the Aberdeen YMCA

SIOUX FALLS STORYLINES
  • Sioux Falls enters this weekend's quad-meet with a dual meet record of 1-1, the Cougars are 1-1 against NSIC competition
  • USF's only competition of the season has been a tri-dual on October 1 against Augustana and St. Cloud State, the Cougars dropped the dual to the Vikings (192-102) but defeated the Huskies (157-137)
  • The Cougars have recorded four individual victories and 14 individual top-3 finishes this season
  • Weronika Mrozek (1,000 yard freestyle), Valerie Childs (200 yard butterfly), Inte Pas (200 yard breaststroke), and Elizabeth Spaans (200 yard IM) are the four event winners for Sioux Falls
  • Domenica Solano leads the team with three individual top-3 finishes this year in the 100 and 200 yard backstroke and the 100 yard butterfly
  • Mrozek ranks 21st nationally in the 1,000 yard freestyle (10:43.12) and 24th in the 500 yard freestyle (5:13.20), while Pas ranks 13th nationally in the 200 yard breaststroke (2:24.56), 18th in the 50 yard breaststroke (31.14), and 19th in the 100 yard breaststroke (1:06.71)
  • Chris Hamstra is in his fifth season as the head swim coach at Sioux Falls
LAST MATCH-UP
  • Northern State and Sioux Falls last competed against each other on October 30, 2021, at the Midco Aquatic Center in Sioux Falls, the Cougars won the dual meet by a score of 183-77
