Grebner Leads Wolves to Dual Meet Split at SDSU Triangular

Brookings, S.D. – The Northern State swim team split a pair of dual meets at the SDSU Triangular on Saturday night as they defeated Iowa Central Community College by a score of 111-80 but fell to South Dakota State 118-75. Lilly Grebner led the Wolves with three individual event wins and set another NSU freshman record. Overall, the Wolves claimed six top-3 three finishes in the meet.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Northern State opened the meet with a fifth place finish in the 400 yard medley relay as the team of Maddie Gonzales, Mayson Sheldon, Lauren Forsyth, and Haley Osborne finished with a time of 4:14.36
  • Hannah Rodts was the top NSU swimmer in the 1,000 yard freestyle, hitting the wall in a time of 12:04.59 for fifth place
  • Haley Osborne paced the Wolves in the 200 yard freestyle with a sixth place finish and time of 2:04.70
  • In the 50 yard freestyle, Delaney Ryken was the top Northern finisher with a time of 26.08 in fifth place
  • Lilly Grebner claimed her fifth individual event victory of the season as she won the 200 yard IM with a time of 2:08.48, setting another NSU freshman record
  • Forsyth and Ryken recorded a pair of top-5 finishes in the 100 yard butterfly as Forsyth notched a third place finish in a time of 1:03.10 and Ryken finished fourth place in a time of 1:08.84
  • Grebner earned her second victory of the night in the 100 yard freestyle with a time of 53.89, while Mia Fursedonne also recorded a fourth place finish and a time of 58.21
  • The Wolves again claimed a pair of top-5 finishes in the 100 yard backstroke as Gonzales finished third with a time of 1:02.70 and Georgy Turner swam to a fourth place finish and time of 1:05.03
  • Osborne earned a runner-up finish in the 500 yard freestyle as she hit the wall in a time of 5:40.74; Hannah Kiernan also notched a fourth place finish with a time of 5:51.20
  • Grebner earned win number three of the night with a victory in the 100 yard breaststroke with a time of 1:08.09; Mayson Sheldon (1:13.34) and Ali Jones (1:15.66) rounded out the top-5 with fourth and fifth place finishes respectively
  • The Wolves closed the night with a runner-up finish in the 200 yard freestyle relay as the team of Mia Fursedonne, Delaney Ryken, Brianna Back, and Lauren Forsyth hit the wall in a time of 1:44.56

UP NEXT
Northern State will be in competition next Friday (October 21) and Saturday (October 22) in Sioux Falls. The Wolves will be competing in a quad-meet both days against Augustana, MSU Moorhead, and Sioux Falls. Competition on Friday will begin at 5 p.m., while Saturday will begin at 10 a.m. at the Midco Aquatic Center.
