Wolves Swimming Hits The Road As They Take On NSIC For SMSU

Aberdeen, S.D. – The Northern State swim team hits the road to take on NSIC foe Southwest Minnesota State at 5 p.m. on Friday from the Don Palm Natatorium. 


About Northern
  • NSU enters the dual 1-10 oveall and 1-1 on the road after cruising past Minnesota Morris last weekend 166-64
  • The Wolves swept 7-of-13 events just a weekend ago
  • Northern State notched 27 top-3 finishes and 11 first place finishes last weekend
  • NSU Athlete of the Week, Marialuisa Avila swam a season best in the 50 free with a time of 25.76 placing first in the event, and recorded first in her 100 fly as well with 1:00.39
  • Josie Gillund took first place finishes in the 100 free (55.60) and 500 free (5:38.69)
  • The Northern State 400 medley team composed of Hannah Kiernan, Shayna Asuncion, Lauren Forsyth, and Connor Doran placed first with a time of 4:16.38
  • NSU 400 free relay comprised of Delaney Ryken, Cassie Williams, Kennedy Davis, and Lexie Malimanek placing first with a time of 3:55.58
 
About Southwest Minnesota
  • The Mustangs enter the weekend 2-2 overall and 1-1 at home after placing second in the Morningside Stampede and fourth at the Morningside Invitational
  • This is the Inaugural season for Mustang swimming
  • SMSU notched nine top-3 finishes in the Morningside Stampede and seven top-3 finishes from the Morningside Invitational
  • Southwest Minnesota's top finisher of last weekend was MacKenzi Kallevig who notched two wins in the 50 free (25.55) and 100 free (54.84) on day one and won the 200 free on day two with a pool record of 1:59.14
  • The Mustangs are led by second year head coach Marty Wahle

Last Meeting
  • This will be the first meeting between these two squads since NSU swimming started competing in the 2007-08 season
