Omaha Neb. – Northern State University's baseball team fought back in game two to take a split to open NSIC play. The Wolves record is 6-5 overall and 1-1 in NSIC play.
In game one, Augustana scored all of their runs in the fourth inning scoring four runs on three hits. Wolves had a chance in the sixth inning putting two guys on base but could not get the timely hit to cut the lead. Wolves had zero runs, on two hits, and had two errors. Augustana had four runs, on seven hits, and zero errors.
Justin Barreneche and
Lucas Lorenz each had a hit for the Wolves.
Ben Carolin and
Jack Schmidt also reached base on a walk.
Zach Hartford took the loss for the Wolves going four innings, giving up four runs, on six hits, one walk, three hit batters, and one strikeout.
Andrew Nichols came into relief for Northern State going two innings giving up no runs on one hit.
In game two, Augustana scored in the top of the first inning scoring two runs on two NSU errors. The Wolves answered with four runs in the third inning on Schmidt's grand slam. The Wolves added another run in the fourth inning on one hit to extend the lead to 5-2. The Vikings loaded the bases in the fifth inning but
Thomas Sertic got two fly outs to leave the bases loaded. Northern State added two runs on two hits in the top of the sixth inning to bring the lead to 7-2. Augustana added one run on three hits in the bottom of the sixth inning.
Mikey Adams led the Wolves going 2-for-3 with three runs, one walk, and one run batted run. Schmidt's only hit was the home run in the third inning with one run scored and four runs batted in.
Justin Barreneche had one hit in two at-bats with one walk, one run, and one run batted in.
Dakota Stilson had one hit and walked once.
Seth Sullwold and Jeffrey Disla each scored a run and walked once.
Thomas Sertic picked up the win for Northern State going 5.2 innings giving up three runs, on four hits, three walks, and three strikeouts.
Holt Hunziker threw 3.1 innings in relief to pick up his second save of the year giving up zero runs, on three hits, four walks, and seven strikeouts.
The Wolves are back in action Sunday afternoon for a double header against #12 Augustana University. First pitch is scheduled for 12 p.m. at Creighton Prep (Omaha, Neb.) against the Vikings.
