Wolves Face Warriors in Quarterfinals of NSIC Tournament

Aberdeen S.D. – The Northern State University Women's Basketball team will face Winona State University in the quarterfinal round of the NSIC/Sanford Health Women's Basketball Tournament. The Wolves will face the Warriors at the Sanford Pentagon on Sunday afternoon. Tip-off is scheduled for 12 p.m. against the Warriors, with the winner advancing to the semifinal round. The Wolves opened up the NSIC/Sanford Health Basketball Tournament with a victory over Upper Iowa University 85-42. The overall conference championship is the first for the Wolves since 1997-98, while the North title is their fourth in five seasons. The Wolves enter the Sanford Health/NSIC Basketball Tournament as the top seed in the NSIC North with a 24-4 record overall and 19-3 record in the league. Miranda Ristau and Jill Conrad lead the team averaging 19.7 and 12.0 points per game this season, while also grabbing a team leading 7.6 and 5.6 rebounds per game. Ristau is shooting a team leading 56.5 percent from the floor, with 62 blocks this season. Brianna Kusler is shooting a team leading 46.6 percent from the 3-poitn line, while Gabby Laimer has knocked down a team leading 30 3-pointers. Northern is shooting 47.5 percent from the floor, 39.4 percent from the arc, and 74.1 percent from the foul line this season. They are averaging 75.1 points, 42.6 rebounds, 19.3 assists, 12.7 turnovers, 5.1 steals, and 3.2 blocks per game, out-scoring their opponents by 14.7 points and out-rebounding their opponents by 13.6 boards per game. Miranda Ristau was named NSIC Player of the Year, as well as First Team All-Conference and All Defensive Team. Jill Conrad was named to First Team All-Conference.  

About the Warriors
                • Winona State enters the quarterfinal round of the tournament with a 15-12 record overall and 10-12 mark in the NSIC.
                • Hannah McGlone leads the active roster averaging 14.1 points per game, while Allie Pickrain and Gabie Doud are notching 12.5 and 10.1.
                • McGlone sit atop the team notching 10.2 and Rachel Novotny is second on the team with 5.8 rebounds per game this season.
                • McGone and Novotny is shooting a team leading 53.7 and 51.4 percent from the floor respectively. Pickrain and Doud lead the team in three point percentage with 42.6 and 41.4 percent respectively.
                • UIU is shooting 42.9 percent from the floor, 36.0 percent from the arc, and 71.9 percent from the foul line, while averaging 65.7 points, 34.3 rebounds, 12.3 assists, 12.0 turnovers, 5.8 steals, and 1.5 blocks per game this season. 
                • The Warriors are led by head coach Scott Ballard in her 14th season at the helm.

                • The Wolves defeated the Warriors 70-63 on the road earlier this month.

                • Northern shot 62.2 percent from the floor and also shot 66.7 percent from behind the arc.      
     • The Wolves out-rebounded the Warriors 27-17 in the game and only allowed four offensive rebounds in the game.
