The Northern State track and field teams had a solid weekend at the Minnesota State Open in its first road trip of 2015. The Wolves men collected 12 top-10 finishes at the meet while the women garnered seven.
Andrew Johnson took home the Wolves' lone title as he won the men's 200-meter dash Saturday, finishing in a time of 22.31. Johnson also placed fifth in the 60 dash in a time of 6.97. NSU got a pair of second-place finishes on the day as the distance medley relay team of Zach Bartolomeo,
Luke Wietgrefe,
Nick Lindwurm and
Adam Leach finished in a time of 10:41.2 while
Austin Dancer took second in the triple jump with a leap of 44'-0.75". Zach placed fourth in the triple with a jump of 42'-11.75".
Lindwurm placed fifth in the 600 with a time of 1:26.86 while
Cameron Sannes placed eighth in the 1,000 in a time of 2:42.51.
Clay Danielson placed eighth in the 3,000 with a time of 9:25.58 and Leach finished 10
th in the mile in 4:29.83 to round-out the Wolves finishes in the running events.
In the field, Northern's
Gage Rayman and
Brady Harr placed 10
th in the weight throw and shot put, respectively at the meet. Rayman recorded a throw of 46'-0.75" while Harr threw the shot 44'-4.25".
Dillon Dahl rounded-out the top finishes for NSU as he placed fifth in the heptathlon with a score of 4,118 points.
On the women's side,
Gena Burley placed third in the high jump and
Dakotah Bullen took third in the 5,000 for NSU's top finishes. Burley recorded a jump of 5'-3.25" in the high jump while Bullen ran a time of 18:38.77.
Haylee Biel placed 10
th in the high jump as well for the Wolves.
Makenzie Hageman took home a pair of top-five finishes in the 60- and 200-meter dashes. Hageman placed fourth in the 60 with a time of 7.90 while taking fifth in the 200 with a time of 26.41.
Lindsey Gast was Northern's other top finisher in the track events at the meet as she placed eighth in the 1,000 in a career-best time of 3:12.56.
Leandra Schlecht took home a seventh-place finish in the long jump with a jump of 16'-6" to give the Wolves their other top finish of the open.
The Wolves return to action next weekend as they travel to Moorhead, Minn., for the Concordia College Cobber Open.
