Box Score
YANKTON, S.D. - Dee Wood made sure her team only needed to score one goal to get the win. Her team gave her that one goal - and seven extra as the Northern State University women's soccer team took a decisive 8-0 victory over Mount Marty College Saturday afternoon in non-conference play.
The win lifts NSU's overall record to 3-2, while MMC falls to 0-3-1 on the year.
Wood faced just two shots on goal in the shut-out performance, making both saves as the Wolves' defense held the Lancers to just four total shots on the day. Three of those shots came from Lauren Donlin.
The Wolves, on the other hand, put up 27 total shots, 21 of which were on goal, and nine different players tallied at least one goal or assist on the day.
The scoring for the Wolves was fast and furious early, as NSU scored six goals in the game's first 18 minutes. Junior
Summer Swan started things off just two minutes into the game off a
Kirbie Wages corner kick.
Laura Opsahl added an unassisted goal just two and a half minutes later to put the Wolves up 2-0.
Sophomore
Maggie Feddor continued the onslaught with her first of two goals on the day at the 10:33 mark, while sophomore
KaSara Sutton fed fellow sophomore
Kirsten Saunders for another tally less than five minutes later.
Feddor claimed her second goal of the game and fourth of the season at the 17:23 mark, followed just 37 seconds later by a
Kaylee McDonald score, which made it a 6-0 game with 72 minutes left to play in the game.
NSU would quiet down for the remainder of the first half until freshman
Lexi Jares tallied her first goal of the year with just over 23 minutes left in the game. Wages then capped off the scoring when she took a
Haley Burns pass and found the net.
NSU took nine corner kicks in the game, the second straight time the Wolves have claimed the edge in that category.
The Wolves will be back in action Sunday afternoon when they take on the University of South Dakota in Vermillion. That game will mark the second time NSU has faced an NCAA Division I opponent this season. The Wolves fell to the University of North Dakota on Sept. 2 in Grand Forks.
