Wolves topple Golden Eagles 76-46

, S.D. – The Northern State women's basketball team posted a season high 30-point victory over Minnesota, Crookston (Friday night at Wachs Arena.  Connecting on a season high 12 three-point shots, the Wolves downed the Golden Eagles 76-46 to improve to 10-15 on the year and 6-10 in NSIC play.  They host Bemidji State on Saturday at 6:00 p.m.

The Wolves rained in the three-point shots to take a 25-5 lead by the 10 minute mark of the first half.  The Golden Eagles began to even out the scoring as the half progressed, but Northern's long range shooting did not fade.  Ryanne Brockhaus hit the team's seventh three of the half to give NSU a 37-21 lead at the three minute mark.  


Both teams committed their share of turnovers in the period, but Northern's 50.0% (8-16) three-point shooting performance and a 26-12 rebound advantage put the Wolves up 42-27 at the half.  Jaclyn Arns had 13 first half points for Northern State.


Freshman Kayla Schmidt gave the Wolves continued firepower in the second half, sinking a set of three-pointers and three free throws for nine quick points.  Back-to-back threes from Jessica Deinert and Schmidt put the Wolves up by 24 points, 56-32 at the 13:30 mark.  The margin only got larger as the game wore down, with Northern going up by 33 points, 71-38, by the seven minute mark.  The Wolves' 
reserves came in with strong minutes and maintained NSU's lead.


Arns pumped out 18 points, six rebound and four assists to lead the Wolves.  Schmidt notched a career high 15 points, hitting 4-of-4 three-point shots and 3-of-3 free throws.  Brockhaus also tallied double figures, finishing the night with 10 points, four rebounds and a team high five assists.  The Wolves had five blocked shots against the Golden Eagles, including five from Krista Rabenberg.  The team shot 41.0% from the field and out-rebounded UMC 56-30.


Diana Taddy came of the bench to lead Minnesota, Crookston in scoring, reaching 12 points.  Jamie Zelinsky grabbed a team high six rebounds.  The squad hit 28.1% of shots from the field and had 14 turnovers.
