ABERDEEN, S.D. – An inspired Northern State University Wolves volleyball team took it to the University of Mary in front of their home crowd Wednesday, and emerged with a 3-1 victory on “Spiking for a Cure” night. A crowd of approximately 604 almost completely dressed in pink saw Northern State sophomore
Megan Gilbraith set a career-high for assists in a game for the second-straight game.
A balanced attack and superb defense, not to mention Gilbraith's new career-high 57 assists, were the formula for success Wednesday night at Wachs Arena. Set scores for the match were 28-26, 25-20, 24-26, and 25-16. With the win the Wolves improve to 11-7 overall on the year, and 3-6 in the very tough NSIC.
Along with her 57 assists, Gilbraith also chipped in on the defensive end with 13 digs, and was one of six Wolves to record double-digits in the defensive category.
Jill Rasmussen led in kills with 20, which would have been a new career-high for her had she not set a new career-high of 25 in Saturday's win over Upper Iowa, and she also chipped in 10 digs.
Melanie Perez and
Kayla Ysteboe each accounted for 14 kills on the offensive end, and defensively registered 15 and 12 digs, respectively. Caitlin Oelke recorded nine kills on offense and 12 digs on defense, and
Stephanie Nygaard led all Wolves defensively with 27 digs.
