WAYNE, Neb. - The Northern State volleyball team fell in three games to Wayne State Tuesday night in the first round of the NSIC Tournament. No. 3-seeded Wildcats took the match from the No. 6-seeded Wolves by scores of 30-15, 30-22, 30-23. The loss ends the 2007 campaign for the Wolves, who finished the year with a 13-16 overall record.
It was an explosive WSC offense that did the Wolves in Tuesday night at Rice Auditorium. The Wildcats hit above the .300 mark in each game and finished the match with 49 kills and a .315 average. Northern had 40 kills and swung .122 on the night, but could not slow the Wayne hitters with their block. The Wolves had three blocks to the Wildcats' ten.
Stephanie Perez and Kelsey Aden each marked double figures in kills, Perez totaling 13 and Aden 10. Melanie Perez anchored the NSU defense with 18 digs as the team posted 56 in the match. Senior Emily Knaeble played her final match in an NSU jersey and had eight kills and ten digs.
Emily Schroeder had the most offensive firepower for the Wildcats, swinging for 16 kills at a rate of .481, also adding six block assists and 13 digs to her stat line, a team high in all three columns. Jenna Jansen assisted on 42 of WSC's 49 kills. The Wildcats advance to the NSIC Semis, where they will face second seeded and #9 nationally-ranked Southwest Minnesota State on Friday at 5:00 p.m.
