Track and Fields Kicks Off USD Tune-up with 28 Student-Athletes in Action

Vermillion, S.D. – The Northern State University track and field teams opened their final weekend of the regular season with 13 top-10 finishes and one event victory.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED FOR THE MEN
  • Luke Campbell led the way in the 400m hurdles with a personal record time of 55.63 in seventh overall
  • Gracen Hansen and Drew Henriksen followed in the 400m hurdles in 11th and 12th with times of 56.60 and 56.44
  • Jonathan Burkhalter tallied a personal best in the 1500m, crossing the finish line in 3:59.44 in ninth overall
  • Blake Stoks and Bailen Hayford took tenth and 11th in the 3000m steeplechase, notching times of 10:53.57 and 11:10.99
  • In the high jump, Jeff Boschee recorded a personal best of 2.04m in fifth overall
  • Carson Barnett added another javelin win to his season resume, taking the event with a throw of 61.39m
  • Levin Reis followed in fifth, throwing 53.08m in the javelin
  • Sam Kreins and Justin Jacobson finished ninth and tenth in the shot put, tossing 15.11m and 14.85m respectively
 
HOW IT HAPPENED FOR THE WOMEN
  • Renea Taylor ran to a new season best in the 400m hurdles with a time of 1:02.32 in sixth overall, just shy of the national provisional mark
  • Andi Mehrer threw to a seventh place finish in the discus, tossing 43.96m
  • Tayla Dobrenski rounded out the top-10 of the high jump with a 1.58m mark
  • Bekah Walz and Gitte Bellemans took ninth and tenth in the pole vault, clearing 3.54m and 3.39m respectively
  • Grace Kuch and Mehrer recorded 11th and 12th place finish in the shot out with marks of 12.33m each
 
UP NEXT
Northern continues the USD Tune-up tomorrow at 9 a.m. with events on the track, followed by field events beginning at 11 a.m. from the Lillibridge Track and Field Complex.
