Two School Records Fall From Iowa

Des Moines / Indianola, Iowa – The Northern State University track and field teams competed at the Drake Relays and Kip Janvrin Open on Friday in the Des Moines metro area. The Wolves recorded 24 top-10 finishes, two event victories, and two school records from the Kip Janvrin.
 
MEN'S HIGHLIGHTS
  • Darrian Hood recorded a seventh place finish in the long jump with a 6.67m mark
  • Luke Schroeder took fifth in the 110m hurdles with a time of 14.80 and third in the 400m hurdles with a time of 53.30
  • Seth Martens added a sixth place finish in the 400m, crossing the finish line in 49.67, followed by Chase Domier with a time of 51.18 in 16th overall
  • The 4x100m relay team of Joel Matehs, Schroeder, Isaac Olson, and Martens took second with a time of 42.88
  • Jackson Harrison led the way for the Wolves in the 5000m, finishing in a school record time of 14:38.63 in fifth place
  • Diego Gallegos recorded a ninth place finish in the javelin, throwing 39.50m
  • Tanner Berg continued the throwing events, taking 13th in the discus with a 43.40m toss, second in the hammer with a 66.55m mark, and fifth in the shot put with a 16.40m throw
  • Nick Olson recorded a 16th place finish in the hammer, tossing 48.56m
  • Sam Tremelling and Rico Imus tallied third and ninth place finishes in the pole vault with marks of 4.40m and 4.10m
  • Sean Mhende took second in the triple jump with a 13.97m mark, followed by Hood in 11th, jumping 12.90m
  • The 4x400m relay team of Domier, Schroeder, Brady Janssen, and Martens tallied a runner-up finish with a time of 3:22.62
 
WOMEN'S HIGHLIGHTS
  • Rachel Guthmiller tallied a fifth place finish, as the top Division II placer in the javelin, throwing a provisional mark of 42.57m at the Drake Relays
  • Jordan Tschumperlin took tenth in the high jump, clearing 1.53m
  • Mary Franssen ran to a 12th place finish in the 800m with a time of 2:20.24
  • Isabel Kinzer tallied a fifth place finish in the 400m hurdles with a time of 1:04.14
  • Jordan Menken recorded an eighth place finish in the discus, tossing 43.16m, as well as an eighth place finish in the shot put with a 12.89m throw
  • Cassidy Gough added a 12th place finish in the hammer with a 47.05m throw, while Shawney Coenraad took 13th in the javelin with a 29.39m throw
  • Shona Juliana won the long jump with a new school record and national provisional mark of 5.97m and placed third in the triple jump with a 11.95m mark
  • Sierra Sweeney added a sixth place finish in the triple jump with an 11.00m mark
  • Kenzee Danielson and Kealy Hill took first and second in the pole vault, each clearing 3.65m
  • The 4x400m relay team of Kinzer, Shanice Burrell, Alli Jackson, and Summer Carlson took third in the event, crossing the finish line in 4:04.83
  • Megan Mooberry ran to a sixth place finish in the 5000m with a time of 18:21.22
 
BEYOND THE RESULTS
  • Harrison broke the 5000m record of 14:44.01 set by Jeremy Vanveen in 2007
  • Juliana had previously broken her own school record earlier this spring, jumping 5.80m and moves her in to the top-15 nationally of the event
