Fan Primer: Wolves Return to NSIC Action to Face UMary and Minot State

Aberdeen, S.D. â€“ The Northern State women’s basketball team will return to conference play this week with a home game against UMary on Thursday evening and a road match-up at Minot State on Saturday afternoon. The Wolves and Marauders are scheduled for a 5:30 p.m. tip-off in Wachs Arena, while the Wolves and Beavers are set for a 1 p.m. tip-off at the Minot State Dome.

Game Specific Promotions

  • Thursday is National Pie Day and will feature a pie eating contest at halftime of the men's basketball game
    • Fans can sign-up to participate when the enter Wachs Arena

 

Entrances to the Facility & Gate Opening Times

Fans will be able to enter the Barnett Center through both the north and south doors. Access to the south entrance is available through both Dakota Bank Stadium entrances off South State Street and 15th Ave SE. Ticket gates will be located at both the north and south doors of the Barnett Center, and will open one hour prior to tip-off for all general admission and same day ticket sales. Gates will open one hour prior to tip-off each game day. 

 

Online Ticketing

Wolves Club season tickets and general admission passes can be purchased online at nsuwolves.universitytickets.com or at the gate on game day. The fully automated system allows fans to select their seat for game day with tickets sent directly to your email or mobile device. Pricing for season and single game tickets is available at nsuwolves.com/tickets. Senior and youth tickets are only available for purchase at the gate on game days. All game day ticket sales will be available at both the North and South entrances of the Barnett Center. The Northern State passbook will be located at the north doors of the Barnett Center, individuals must sign in via the far right line at the ticket gate. There is no re-entry into the facility.

Current Northern State University students will receive one free ticket to all home sporting events throughout the 2022-23 academic. Information on how to claim student tickets will be distributed via email. 

 

Parking

The first three rows of parking in the Barnett Center main lot will be reserved for Wolves Club members with an annual parking pass, with free parking for all fans available in the following rows to the North.

 

Concessions and Team Store

The Northern State concession stands are operated by Sodexo and offer a wide range of options for fans of all ages. Enjoy an ice-cold Coca-Cola product, bite into a soft pretzel with cheese, a world famous Wolf dog, or walking taco. Don’t forget to grab a freshly made popcorn or batch of Wisconsin cheese curds from one of the concession stands near you at all home Wolves athletic events. The NSU Nike Team Store will be open in its main Barnett Center location on game day, opening one hour prior to tip-off.

NORTHERN STATE STORYLINES

  • Northern State enters Thursday’s NSIC match-up with a record of 6-1 (1-0 NSIC)
  • The Wolves extended their winning streak to six games last weekend with a pair of wins at the Bahama House Shootout in Daytona Beach, Florida; NSU defeated Flagler (76-65) and the hosts of Embry-Riddle (64-56) in the tournament
  • The trio of Kailee Oliverson, Rianna Fillipi, and Laurie Rogers lead the Wolves in scoring, averaging 12.7, 11.7, and 10.7 points per game respectively
  • With a team best 7.1 rebounds per game this season, Rogers has grabbed double digit rebounds in three games for three double-doubles through seven games for the Wolves; Rogers’ three double-doubles is tied for 11th nationally and is the most by an NSIC player this season
  • Rogers also leads Northern with 2.3 blocked shots per game this season which ranks ninth nationally, and her 16 total blocks ranks third nationally
  • Fillipi holds the team lead with 3.9 assists and 1.7 steals per game; she has notched two or more steals in four games this season
  • Northern is shooting the ball 41.7 percent from the field, 29.4 percent from 3-point range, and 73.4 percent from the free throw line; NSU improved to 6-0 this season when having a better shooting percentage from the field than their opponents
  • With 14.3 assists and 9.4 turnovers per game, Northern State holds a 1.5 assist/turnover ratio that ranks third in NCAA Division II
  • The Wolves 9.4 turnovers per game is the lowest mark in the country and NSU is 5-0 this season when winning the turnover battle; Northern has committed fewer than ten turnovers five times this season, including a season-low of six against Flagler last weekend

 

UNIVERSITY OF MARY STORYLINES

  • UMary enters Thursday’s match-up with a record of 1-2 on the season as they open conference play
  • The Marauders split a pair of games at the Malika Sports Thanksgiving Tournament in Hilo, Hawaii last weekend, they dropped their first game to Tampa (88-55) prior to defeating Hawaii-Hilo (72-44)
  • Megan Zander and Addison Rozell are the lone Marauders averaging double figures in scoring this season with 13.7 and 12.0 points per game this season
  • Through three games this season, Rozell is shooting the ball 54.2 percent from the field and 57.1 percent from 3-point range, while Zander is 92.3 percent from the free throw line
  • The duo also leads the team in rebounding with Rozell averaging 5.7 rebounds and Zander averaging 5.0 rebounds per game; Zander adds a team-high 3.0 assists per game
  • UMary is shooting the ball 44.5 percent from the field, 32.3 percent form 3-point range, and 68.5 percent from the free throw line
  • The Marauders are committing 18.3 turnovers per game with a -3.0 turnover margin, Mary has turned the ball over more than 11 times in each game this season, including a season-high of 27 against Black Hills State
  • Rick Neumann is in his 11th season as the head women’s basketball coach at UMary, he holds a record of 148-135

 

LAST MATCH-UP

  • Having split the season series in each of the last two seasons, last year Northern State won 66-59 in Wachs Arena, but fell on the road in Bismarck by a score of 92-69
  • Northern leads the all-time series 38-20, however the Marauders have won six of the last eight meetings

 

MINOT STATE STORYLINES

  • Minot State enters this weekend’s contests with a record of 4-2 on the season as they open conference play
  • The Beavers won their home-opener on Tuesday night against Dickinson State with a 91-60 win
  • Minot saw three players score in double figures in the win as Kate Head scored a game-high 20 points while Kennedy Harris scored 18 points and Emma Mogen scored ten points
  • Head is the lone player to average double figures in scoring for Minot State with 17.0 points per game, she has scored 20 or more points in three games this season; Head also leads the Beavers with 4.2 assists per game
  • Natasha Elliott adds 6.2 points per game for Minot, while also leading the team with 6.5 rebounds per game
  • Vilborg Jonsdottir is recording a team-best 1.8 steals per game, and Lorelei McIver leads the team with 1.0 blocked shots per game
  • Minot State is shooting the ball 40.3 percent from the field, 32.1 percent from 3-point range, and 73.8 percent from the free throw line
  • The Beavers are forcing 16.8 opponent turnovers per game this season, resulting in 9.2 steals per game and 17.2 points off turnovers per game
  • Mike Brandt is in his second season as the head women’s basketball coach at Minot State, he holds a record of 12-20 with the Beavers; Brandt holds a career record of 519-315 in his 29th season as a collegiate women’s basketball coach
