Fan Primer: Wolves Host Dragons to Open NSIC Action

Aberdeen, S.D. â€“ The Northern State women’s basketball team will tip-off NSIC play with a mid-week match-up against MSU Moorhead on Wednesday evening. The Wolves and Dragons are scheduled for a 6 p.m. start time from Wachs Arena.

Entrances to the Facility & Gate Opening Times

Fans will be able to enter the Barnett Center through both the north and south doors. Access to the south entrance is available through both Dakota Bank Stadium entrances off South State Street and 15th Ave SE. Ticket gates will be located at both the north and south doors of the Barnett Center, and will open one hour prior to tip-off for all general admission and same day ticket sales. Gates will open one hour prior to tip-off each game day. 

 

Online Ticketing

Wolves Club season tickets and general admission passes can be purchased online at nsuwolves.universitytickets.com or at the gate on game day. The fully automated system allows fans to select their seat for game day with tickets sent directly to your email or mobile device. Pricing for season and single game tickets is available at nsuwolves.com/tickets. Senior and youth tickets are only available for purchase at the gate on game days. All game day ticket sales will be available at both the North and South entrances of the Barnett Center. The Northern State passbook will be located at the north doors of the Barnett Center, individuals must sign in via the far right line at the ticket gate. There is no re-entry into the facility.

Current Northern State University students will receive one free ticket to all home sporting events throughout the 2022-23 academic. Information on how to claim student tickets will be distributed via email. 

 

Parking

The first three rows of parking in the Barnett Center main lot will be reserved for Wolves Club members with an annual parking pass, with free parking for all fans available in the following rows to the North.

 

Concessions and Team Store

The Northern State concession stands are operated by Sodexo and offer a wide range of options for fans of all ages. Enjoy an ice-cold Coca-Cola product, bite into a soft pretzel with cheese, a world famous Wolf dog, or walking taco. Don’t forget to grab a freshly made popcorn or batch of Wisconsin cheese curds from one of the concession stands near you at all home Wolves athletic events. The NSU Nike Team Store will be open in its main Barnett Center location on game day, opening one hour prior to tip-off.

NORTHERN STATE STORYLINES

  • Northern State enters conference play with a 1-1 record on the early season
  • Northern split a pair of games against MIAA foes Central Missouri and Rogers State at the Central Region Conference Challenge, the Wolves dropped the opening game of the season to the Jennies (75-57) before rebounding for commanding win over the Hillcats (67-46)
  • Rianna Fillipi led the Wolves in the first two outings of the season, averaging 14.0 points, 4.0 rebounds, 4.5 assists, and 2.0 steals per game
  • Jordyn Hilgemann notched a new career high mark with 12 points against the Hillcats on Saturday afternoon, while freshman Madelyn Bragg recorded her first double digit scoring outing with ten points against RSU
  • Bragg along with Brynn Alfson leads NSU with 5.5 rebounds per game
  • As one of the top rebounding teams in the NSIC last season Northern grabbed 40 or more rebounds in 14 contests; NSU notched 46 boards against UCM and 41 against RSU this past weekend
  • The Wolves grabbed 20 offensive rebounds against the Jennies and 11 against the Hillcats, the offensive rebounds resulted in 20 and 13 second chance points respectively
  • Dating back to the 2021 season Northern State has recorded a block in 36 consecutive games; the Wolves blocked four shots against the Jennies and two shots against the Hillcats on the opening weekend
  • Laurie Rogers and Bragg each had one blocked shot in both contests this past weekend
  • Northern State’s bench is averaging 29.0 points per game through two contests and are being led by Hilgemann (9.5), Alfson (7.0), and Bragg (6.0)
  • The Wolves forced 21 Rogers State turnovers on Saturday, resulting in 25 points, this was the most turnovers NSU had forced since a game against Bemidji State on December 6, 2019, when the Beavers committed 20 that resulted in 26 points off turnovers
  • Northern State’s 10.0 turnovers per game is currently the fewest among the 11 NSIC teams that played this past weekend

 

MSU MOORHEAD STORYLINES

  • MSU Moorhead enters conference play with a record of 1-1 on the early season
  • The Dragons opened the season with a victory over Rogers State (63-40), but fell to Central Missouri (69-58) in their final game of the Central Region Conference Challenge
  • A pair of MSUM players recorded double doubles in the Dragons season opening win over the Hillcats, Mariah McKeever (18 points, 14 rebounds) and Peyton Boom (13 points, 14 rebounds)
  • After two games this opening weekend Boom is averaging 16.5 points, 9.5 rebounds, 4.5 assists, and 2.5 steals per game, while McKeever is averaging 12.5 points, 10.5 rebounds, 4.5 assists, and 1.0 steal per game
  • With 54 rebounds against RSU, MSUM held a +27 advantage on the boards
  • MSU Moorhead committed 19 turnovers against RSU, resulting in 16 points off turnovers; the Dragons are averaging 12.5 turnovers with a -2.5 margin per game
  • Among the 11 NSIC teams that played this past weekend, the Dragons defense ranks first in opponent 3-point field goal percentage (0.200), second in opponent field goal percentage (0.368), and third in scoring defense (54.5)
  • Karla Nelson is in her 23rd season as the head women’s basketball coach at MSU Moorhead, she holds a record of 395-229 during her time with the Dragons

 

LAST MATCH-UP

  • MSU Moorhead defeated Northern State in the first game of the New Year on January 2, 2022, by a score of 67-50 in Wachs Arena
  • Rianna Fillipi led the Wolves with 15 points and five rebounds in the last meeting with the Dragons, and Laurie Rogers added eight points, seven rebounds, and five blocks
  • Northern leads the all-time series 48-30, however each of the past two seasons NSU and MSUM have split the season series
