Northern State Swimming Captures First Place at Dragon Invite

West Fargo, N.D. – The Northern State swim team earned 998 team points enroute to first place at the Dragon Invite hosted by MSU Moorhead on Saturday night. The Wolves earned 32 top-5 finishes in the invite, as well as nine event victories.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Day two of the invite started with Haley Osborn and Connor Doran placing third and fourth respectively in the 200 yard freestyle with times of 1:59.72 and 2:03.35
  • In the 100 yard backstroke, Maddie Gonzales earned her second event win of the invite with a time of 1:00.63
  • Mayson Sheldon led the way for the Wolves in the 100 yard breaststroke, hitting the wall in a time of 1:12.32
  • Marialuisa Avila earned a top-5 finish for Northern in the 200 yard butterfly, finishing with a time of 2:39.07
  • Osborne and Fanny Legros earned second and third place finishes in the 1000 yard freestyle with times of 11:20.27 and 11:31.52
  • Avila was the top NSU swimmer in the 50 yard freestyle with a sixth place finish and time of 26.12
  • In the 200 yard IM, Gonzales and Brianna Back finished second and third respectively, hitting the wall in times of 2:19.00 and 2:25.51
  • The relay team of Connor Doran, Delaney Ryken, Brianna Back, and Haley Osborne earned a runner-up finish in the 400 yard freestyle relay with a time of 3:50.48
  • The final session of the day began with Gonzales, Sheldon, Avila, and Doran swimming to a victory in the 400 yard medley relay in a time of 4:13.16
  • Osborne and Legros earned third and fourth place finishes in the 500 yard freestyle, hitting the wall in times of 5:21.95 and 5:37.54
  • Gonzales earned a sweep in a three backstroke events when she won the 50 yard backstroke in a time of 28.67
  • Sheldon earned a victory in the 50 yard breaststroke in a time of 32.40
  • Avila and Lauren Forsyth placed one and two in the 50 yard butterfly, coming in with times of 27.54 and 27.96
  • Osborne was the top Wolves swimmer in the 100 yard freestyle with a time of 55.01
  • Gonzales earned her fourth individual event win of the invite in the 100 yard IM, swimming to a winning time of 1:05.34
  • Northern State closed the Dragon Invite with a fourth place finish in the 800 yard freestyle relay, as the team of Brianna Back, Megan Pattee, Fanny Legros, and Delaney Ryken finished with a time of 8:51.99
UP NEXT
Northern State will travel to Bismarck, North Dakota next weekend to take part in the UMary Pentathlon. The meet is scheduled to start at 1 p.m. on Saturday afternoon.
