Wolves Track and Field Shines in First Open of 2022

Bismarck, N.D. – The Northern State University men's and women's track and field teams tallied 33 top-5 finishes from the UMary Mike Thorson Open on Saturday. In addition, the Wolves added ten event victories, as well as four provisional marks and one school record.
 
MEN'S HIGHLIGHTS
  • JD Matehs opened the meet with a fourth place finish in the 60m, notching a time of 7.29, and won the 60m hurdles with a time of 8.93
  • Chase Domier and Seth Martens recorded third and fifth place finishes in the 400m with times of 51.91 and 52.24 respectively
  • Ronald Stephenson and Caleb Schlekeway matched the same finishes in the 600m, notching times of 1:31.00 and 1:34.19 in third and fifth
  • Nathan Alto ran to a runner-up finish in the mile, notching a time of 4:27.61
  • Jackson Harrison added to the distance success, winning the 3000m with a time of 8:44.71
  • Luke Schroeder and Jaden Bohms-Buechler added second and fourth place finishes in the 60m hurdles, crossing the line in 9.07 and 9.35
  • The 4x400m relay team of Stephenson, Schroeder, Matehs, and Martens notched a time of 3:29.57 to win the event
  • Darrian Hood rounded out the top-5 in the long jump, notching a 6.42m mark, and added a third place finish in the triple jump with a 12.94m jump
  • Tanner Berg opened his day with a runner-up finish in the shot put, hitting a provisional mark of 16.74m
  • Berg went on to win the weight throw, moving up to first in the country with his 21.68m throw
  • Nick Olson followed in third in the weight, throwing 15.47m
 
WOMEN'S HIGHLIGHTS
  • Makenna Larson opened the day with a second place finish in the 60m, crossing the finish line in 8.21, and added a fifth place finish in the 200m with a time of 27.66
  • Renea Taylor and Shanice Burrell went one-two in the 200m with times of 26.20 and 26.87 respectively
  • Taylor added her second event win the of day in the 400m, recording a time of 59.99
  • Emma Rezac and Vanessa Klein followed in the 400m, taking third and fifth with times of 1:01.41 and 1:01.89
  • Jennifer Clark, Avery Murray, and Summer Carlson took home the top three spots in the 600m, running to times of 1:42.00, 1:42.95, and 1:43.02
  • Mary Franssen and Carlson took first and second in the 800m with times of 2:27.85 and 2:29.05
  • Megan Mooberry took the crown in the 3000m with a time of 10:34.42, followed by Megan Pickering and Victoria Kolbinger in second and fifth with times of 10:35.89 and 11:03.05
  • Burrell continued her day with a runner-up finish in the 60m hurdles, crossing the finish line in 8.97
  • The women's 4x400m relay team of Isabel Kinzer, Klein, Alli Jackson, and Rezac won the event with a time of 4:12.03
  • Tava Berg recorded a fourth place finish in the high jump, clearing 1.58m
  • Shona Juliana broke the Northern State school record in the long jump, winning the event with a provisional mark of 5.72m
  • Juliana added a third place finish in the triple jump with a provisional mark of 11.73m
  • Jordan Menken opened the throwing events for the Wolves, taking second with a 12.84m toss in the shot put
  • Cassidy Gough added a third place finish in the weight throw, tossing 14.69m
 
BEYOND THE RESULTS
  • Juliana broke the indoor long jump record she set last season of 5.68m, jumping 5.72m to win the event
  • Juliana moves up to 15th nationally in the long jump, while Tanner Berg moved to first in the weight throw and 16th in the shot put
 
UP NEXT
Northern travels to Brookings next Friday and Saturday for the South Dakota State Division II Invite and Jim Emmerich Invite.
