Northern State Shines from WSC Wildcat Challenge

Wayne, Neb. – The Northern State University track and field teams faced off against Wayne State, South Dakota, and Sioux Falls from the Wildcat Challenge on Saturday. The Wolves put together a stellar day, notching three school records, improving their national marks, and winning 14 individual events.
 
WOMEN'S HIGHLIGHTS
  • Rachel Guthmiller tallied a runner-up finish in the javelin, throwing 37.48m (122-11.00), while Dakota Hutzler took sixth with a 29.12m (95-06.00) toss
  • Alison Theis jumped to a ninth place finish in the long jump, notching a 4.56m (16-00.25) mark
  • Shona Juliana won the triple jump with a 11.28m (37.00.25) mark
  • Tava Berg improved her high jump mark on the year with an event winning jump of 1.73m (5-08.00), breaking the school record
  • The Wolves took the top three spots in the pole vault, led by Jordyn Huneke with a new school record mark of 4.10m (13-05.25)
  • Kealy Hill and Kenzee Danielson took second and third in the pole vault, clearing 3.73m (12-02.75) and 3.43m (11-03.00) respectively
  • Jordan Menken took seventh in the discus with a 44.1m (144-09.00) toss and fifth in the shot put, throwing 12.53m (41-01.50)
  • Christine Stoltenburg tallied an eighth place finish in the shot put, throwing 11.77m (28-07.50)
  • Megan Mooberry won the 1500m with a time of 5:00.26, followed by Megan Pickering and Victoria Kolbinger in fifth and seventh with times of 5:09.06 and 5:19.48
  • Shanice Burrell added a win in the 100m hurdles, crossing the finish line in 14.33, while Hutzler took fifth in the event with a time of 16.06
  • Isabel Kinzer and Emma Rezac took second and third in the 400m, notching times of 59.32 and 59.42
  • Makenna Larson was the runner-up in the 100m, crossing the finish line in 12.50
  • Jennifer Clark tallied a sixth place finish in the 800m with a time of 2:28.02, followed by Jordyn Sterud in ninth with a time of 2:32.33
  • Burrell and Larson took first and second in the 200m, notching times of 25.69 and 26.51
 
MEN'S HIGHLIGHTS
  • Tanner Berg won the hammer throw with a new school record of 68.60m (225-01.00), followed by Nick Olson in seventh with a 50.52m (165-09.00) toss
  • Darrian Hood took second in the long jump with a 6.62m (21-08.75) mark and went on to win the triple jump, recording a mark of 13.61m (44-08.00)
  • Bryce Malsam and Kelson Brewer took first and second in the pole vault, clearing 4.50m (14-09.00) and 4.20m (13-09.25)
  • Berg and Olson went on to take fifth and seventh in the discus, notching throws of 47.50m (155-10.00) and 44.01m (144-05.00)
  • The throwing crew concluded their day in the shot put, led by Berg with a fourth place finish of 15.90m (52-02.00)
  • Olson and Mason Amato took sixth and eighth with throws of 14.04m (46-00.75) and 12.35m (40-06.25)
  • The 4x100m relay team of Brady Janssen, Isaiha Fletcher, Riley Gauer, and Ronald Stephenson ran to a time of 43.93
  • Riccardo Done won the 1500m with a time of 4:09.19, followed by Jackson Harrison and Jorge Garcia in third and fifth with times of 4:11.47 and 4:18.97
  • Northern took the top four spots in the 400m, led by Seth Martens with a time of 49.14; Tafara Hondonga, Fletcher, and Stephenson followed with times of 49.23, 50.88, and 51.15
  • Gauer went on to take third in the 100m, notching a time of 11.25
  • Jorge Garcia took third in the 800m with a time of 2:02.34, followed by Nick Baier in sixth with a time of 2:03.58
  • Janssen took second in the 400m hurdles, recording a time of 1:04.09
  • Fletcher, Stephenson, and Gauer went one-two-three in the 200m with times of 22.01, 23.01, and 23.26
  • The 4x400m relay team of Brewer, Hondonga, Janssen, and Martens won the race with a time of 3:23.72
 
BEYONG THE RESULTS
  • Tava Berg jumped up to ninth nationally in the high jump with her 1.73m mark breaking the school record of 1.72m set by Royanne Riss in 1985
  • Huneke broke her own school record of 4.07m in the pole vault and moved up to sixth nationally in the event with an automatic qualifying mark
  • Tanner Berg blew his previous school record of 65.83m (set at the Early Bird Meet) out of the water, throwing nearly ten feet farther
