Vermillion, S.D. – The Northern State University track and field teams opened the SD Challenge on Friday with a school record performance, as well as numerous top-10 finishes. In addition, Northern's multi athletes are currently in sixth in the heptathlon and decathlon.
WOMEN'S HIGHLIGHTS
- Dakota Hutzler sits in sixth in the heptathlon with 2,624 points; notching marks of 16.08 in the 100m hurdles, 1.57m in the high jump, 10.04m in the shot put, and 27.30 in the 200m
- Rachel Guthmiller took fifth in the javelin, throwing 36.15m (118-08.25)
- Isabel Kinzer and Shanice Burrell took 13th and 15th in the 200m with times of 25.61 and 25.75 respectively
- Jordyn Huneke was the top Division II finisher in the pole vault, taking fifth with a school record mark of 3.91m (12-10.00)
- Kealy Hill followed in the pole vault, taking sixth with a vault of 3.76m (12-04.00)
MEN'S HIGHLIGHTS
- Bryce Malsam sits in sixth in the decathlon with 3,190 points; recording marks of 11.50 in the 100m, 6.30m in the long jump, 11.59m in the shot put, 1.82m in the high jump, and 55.44 in the 400m
- Terry Towah placed eighth in the 200m with a time of 22.19, followed by Seth Martens in 13th, crossing the line in 22.39
- Tanner Berg rounded out the top-15 in the discus, throwing 43.63m (143-01.75)
BEYOND THE RESULTS
- Huneke broke Alli Arampatzis' school of 3.90m in the pole vault, which was set of 2011
- Hill's pole vault mark was an outdoor personal record for the junior
