Three Wolves Set for NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships

Aberdeen, S.D. Tanner Berg, Tava Berg, and Jordyn Huneke will compete for the Northern State University track and field teams this weekend at the NCAA Indoor Championships. Tanner Berg will take on the weight throw and shot put, while Tava Berg will compete in the high jump and Huneke in the pole vault. The NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships are hosted in Birmingham, Alabama, with the Wolves in competition on Thursday and Friday.

COMPETITION SCHEDULE
  • Thursday, March 11 – Tanner Berg (weight throw) – 6:30 p.m.
  • Friday, March 12 – Tanner Berg (shot put) – 11 a.m.
  • Friday, March 12 – Tava Berg (high jump) – 4:30 p.m.
  • Friday, March 12 – Jordyn Huneke (pole vault) – 6:15 p.m.
 
NORTHERN STATE STORYLINES
  • Tanner Berg holds the top throw in the nation, and third best all-time in NCAA Division II, in the weight throw with a school record mark of 22.55m (73-11.75)
  • He also ranks 12th nationally in the shot put with a school record throw of 17.40m (57-01.00).
  • Tava Berg ranks fifth nationally with an automatic qualifying mark of 1.75m (5-08.75) in the high jump, which is also the Northern State school record
  • Huneke is ranked 12th nationally in the pole vault, clearing 3.98m (13-0.75).
 
SCHOOL RECORD WATCH
  • Tava Berg broke the high jump record of 1.66m set by Tara Like in 1996 at the Jamestown dual, jumping 1.68m, at Jim Emmerich Invite jumping 1.73m, and at the SDSU Last Chance jumping 1.75m
  • Dakota Hutzler shattered the long jump mark of 5.52m set by Heidi Nelson (1993) and Katie Anderson (2005) on each of her three attempts at the Jamestown dual, recording a day best of 5.65m; Shona Juliana went on to break the same record at the SDSU Last Chance jumping 5.68m
  • Jennifer Clark broke the 1000m record of 3:01.89 held by Jenny Baus from the 2008 season in the Wolves dual win versus Augustana
  • Terry Towah's time of 22.03 in the 200m at the Jim Emmerich Invite, dropped Isaiha Fletcher's school record of 22.05 set just a season ago, and re-broke the record at the SDSU Last Chance with a time of 21.73
  • Hutzler also broke her own school record in the pentathlon at the NDSU Bison Multi, racking up a national provisional mark of 3,479 points
  • Tanner Berg continued his dominance in the weight throw, re-breaking his school record with a mark of 22.55m at the SDSU Last Chance
  • Berg also broke the school record in the shot put set by Gerald Schlekeway in 1965 of 17.27m (56-08.00), throwing 17.40m (57-01.00)
