Aberdeen, S.D. - Northern State's Sam Masten (men's basketball) and Maddie Gonzales (women's swimming) have been named as the South Dakota Army National Guard Athletes of the Week for their athletic efforts last week.
 
Masten scored an East/West Challenge high 48 combined points. He dropped a game high 34 points in a 92-90 win over Black Hills State and scored the go-ahead layup to secure the victory for the Wolves. He shot an impressive 85 percent from three-point land and 76 percent from the field overall on the weekend; and went 13-17 from the field and 4-4 from behind the arch in the win over Black Hills State. On Monday morning Masten was named the NSIC North Division Player of the Week.
 
Gonzales recorded three individual top-15 finishes and season best times at the Augustana Mid-Season meet this past week. She earned a fourth place finish in the 200 yard backstroke with a time of 2:04.31, was 13^th in the 100 yard backstroke hitting the wall in a time of 58.47 and was 15^th in the 200 yard IM with a time of 2:11.76. Gonzales was also a part of the 400 yard medley relay that was 18^th with a season best time of 4:03.80.
