Northern State Women's Basketball Heads South for Cross Divisional Play

Aberdeen, S.D. – Northern State women's basketball heads south for cross-divisional play this weekend­ as they travel to face Augustana and 5:30 p.m. on Friday and Wayne State at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday.

ABOUT THE NORTHERN STATE WOLVES
  • Northern State enters the weekend 11-5 overall and 7-3 in NSIC play and 4-2 on the road
  • The Wolves are currently on a four-game win streak that started at the beginning of this month
  • Last weekend NSU grounded the Golden Eagles (78-64) and took down the Beavers (81-71)
  • NSU is still in the hunt for first place in the north division as they currently sit fourth behind St. Cloud in third, MSU Moorhead in second and Minnesota Duluth in first with a 9-1 NSIC record
  • Northern is shooting 44.8% from the floor thus far placing them third in the conference for the best field goal percentage
  • The Wolves are grabbing an average of 31.1 defensive rebounds per game placing them second in the league for defensive rebounds
 
ABOUT THE VIKINGS
  • Augustana enters the weekend 8-6 overall, 4-6 in NSIC play and 4-4 at home as they carry a two-game win streak
  • The Vikings swept last weekend against Upper Iowa (69-50) and Winona State (68-51)
  • Augie is averaging 70.0 points per game while keeping opponents to an average of 62.0 points per game
  • Augustana sit 13th in the conference in shooting percentage at 38.9%
  • The Vikings are third in defensive field goal percentage allowing opponents to shoot only 38.1%
  • Augie is averaging 39.6 rebounds per game and 11.6 turnovers per game this season
  • Augustana is led by Dave Krauth in his 31st season at the helm
 
LAST MEETING
  • Northern State faced Augie twice last year once in the regular season and the second time during the NSIC Championships when the Wolves dropped the game 80-64

ABOUT THE WILDCATS
  • Wayne State 11-5 overall, 6-4 in NSIC, and 5-2 at home this season
  • The Wildcats split last weekend dropping a game to Winona State (83-75) then bouncing back against Upper Iowa for a 78-55 win in Fayette, Iowa
  • WSC is fourth in the conference for shooting percentage at 44.3% behind the Wolves
  • Wayne State currently sits seventh overall in the NSIC standings, two spots behind Northern State who sits in fifth
  • WSC is led by Brent Pollari in his second season at the helm
 
LAST MEETING
  • Northern State last season was unable to come away with the win against the Wildcats as they fell 60-56 at home
  • The Wolves trailed the Wildcats by seven at half time just a year ago
  • Lexi Wadsworth led the team in scoring with 11 points
  • Brianna Kusler grabbed 11 rebounds that game followed by Jessi Marti with eight
  • Northern State is 22-28 all-time against Wayne State dating back to 1993-94 season when the Wolves dropped the first meeting ever 75-71
