Wolves Fall Short Against Beavers in Elimination Game

Sioux Falls, S.D. – The Northern State University baseball team fell to Minot State in an elimination game Friday 1-4. With the loss, the Wolves season ends with a record of 22-20, after making the NSIC Tournament for the third time in four years.

Minot State scored one run in the first inning to take an early lead over the Wolves. In the seventh inning Minot State added three more runs to take a 4-0 lead over NSU. Northern State scored one run in the ninth inning on a passed ball that scored Lucas Lorenz. NSU finished with one run on seven hits and did not commit an error.

Justin Barreneche finished the day with two hits in four plate appearances. Ben Carolin notched one hit and drew one walk. Jack Schmidt recorded one hit in four plate appearances. Dakota Stilson went 1-for-4 in the loss. Lorenz scored the only run for the Wolves, Hayden Hall recorded one hit and walked once for the Wolves. Kolin Kubitz tallied one hit in four plate appearances.

Sam Krapf started on the mound for the Wolves and took the loss going 6.2 giving up four earned runs, on seven hits, walked one, and recorded nine strikeouts. Nate Zeise pitched 0.1 innings in relief and walked one and struck out one. Holt Hunziker pitched the eighth inning and gave up two walks and two strikeouts.

Northern State Seniors Patrick Leary, Kolin Kubitz, Lucas Lorenz, Thomas Sertic, Sam Krapf, Nate Zeise, Jack Schmidt, Seth Sullwold, Mike Severson, Kyle Beardsley, Colton Landreth, and Andrew Nichols played their final game in a Wolves uniform. The group propelled the program to new heights, making three of the last four conference tournaments, breaking individual and team school records.
