Aberdeen, S.D. – The Northern State University softball team will spend their spring break in the sunshine state, with 12 game slated from the PFX/NTC Tournament. The Wolves kick-off competition on March 2 at 8 a.m. (CT) and play their final doubleheader on March 8 at 1 and 6 p.m. (CT). The full schedule can be found

The Wolves opened the 2018 season going 2-2 from the Presentation College Dome Classic with wins over Dakota Wesleyan and Dakota State. Northern hit .280 as a team with 30 hits, six doubles, two homeruns, 13 RBI, 14 runs scored, and five stolen bases. Nine Wolves finished the weekend with multiple hits, while seven hit over .300 on the weekend. NSU tallied six hits against DWU, ten against VCSU, and seven against both UMC and DSU. Defensively they gave up eight errors and 17 earned runs.
Shayla Steinley led the team with five hits, going 5-for-15 from the plate with four runs scored and one RBI. The sophomore also went a perfect 3-for-3 in stolen base attempts.
Jamie Fisher,
Jenna Helgeson, and
Katie Dawson each tallied a team second best four hits. Dawson led the team with two homeruns and four RBI.
Makenzie Merritt and Fisher each grabbed wins on the mound, with Fisher leading the NSU staff notching five strikeouts.
