Dickinson, N.D. – The Northern State University wrestling team steam rolled Dickinson State on Friday evening, defeating the Blue Hawks 44-6 in non-conference action. The Wolves won nine of the ten weight classes, with their only loss coming due to a medical forfeit. The victory, improves Northern's dual record to 3-1 this season.
Dayne Morton opened the match for the Wolves with a 1:56 win by fall over Landen Hopkins. The freshman notched the quickest pin of the night for NSU and put the Wolves up 6-0.
Robert Coyle III followed with his own extra point victory defeating Trey Fischbach in a 17-1 technical fall at 6:18 in the match.
Caden Moore kept the Wolves on track following an injury forfeit with a major decision victory. Moore defeated Matt Carlso with a score of 15-7. Grabbing the second pin of the evening for NSU was sophomore
Walker Carr. He defeated Konrich Speelmon at 2:28 in the first period.
At the halfway point in the dual Northern led 21-6.
Billy Holtan returned to the mat at 165-pounds and defeated Cody Warner in an 18-0 technical fall mid-way through the second. In his first match of the week,
Jake Flakus took on Caden Haugen and came away with a 13-3 major decision victory. Dickinson State was open at 184-pounds, propelling the Wolves into their final two matches and wins of the evening.
Diego Gallegos tallied the third and final technical fall for the Wolves, defeating Kyle Anderson with a score of 19-2. Northern heavyweight,
Harrison Townsend took on Casey Jones who entered the match ranked seventh in the NAIA national rankings. Townsend battled, and came away with a 3-2 victory.
The Wolves will hit the road next weekend, heading to the Midwest Classic in Indianapolis. NSU will face some of the top competition from across the country next Saturday and Sunday, December 15 and 16.
