Aberdeen, S.D. – The Northern State University swim team opened the home season with a loss against the University of Mary by a final score of 123-100. NSU picked up five race wins in the dual and 15 top-three finishes and with Northern State not having any divers they could not pick up points in the two diving events leaving them a couple points short of picking up a dual victory.
Hannah Kastigar picked up the first win of the night in the 200 Individual Medley with a time of 2:06.0. Kastigar picked up her second race win of the night in the 200 butterfly with a time of 2:04.2.
Josie Gillund picked up a win in the 100 freestyle with a time of 55.68.
Shayna Asuncion picked up a first race win of the season in the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:39.6. The Wolves picked up a win in the last event of the night in the 400 freestyle relay from the team of Walters, Murdock, Gillund, and Kastigar.
The meet started with the 200-yard medley relay as the team of
Ashley Dunn,
Makyl Ziegler, Asuncion, and
Sierra Ohm picked up a second place finish with a time of 1:57.3. The next event was the 1650-yard freestyle with
Maida Walters finished in second place with a time of 19:26.7 and
Jordan Metz finished in fourth place with a time of 20:03.5.
Cassandra Maillet picked up a third place finish in the 200 freestyle with a time of 2:02.2 and in fourth place with a time of 2:03.9 was Gillund.
Sierra Ohm took second place in the 50 freestyle with a time of 26.46 and Murdock finished .05 second behind Ohm in third place.
Finishing in third place in the 200 Individual Medley was Dunn with a time of 2:21.7 and in fourth place was Asuncion with a time of 2:22.7.
Sierra Ohm picked up her third top three finish in the 100 freestyle with a third place finish with a time of 57.64.
Emma Murdock picked up a second place finish in the 200 backstroke with a time of 2:14.4. Walters picked up a third place finish in the 500 freestyle with a time of 5:46.6.
The Wolves return to the pool next Friday as they host Minnesota Morris. The dual will start at 5:30 from the Aberdeen YMCA against the Cougars.
